CHARLIE ATHANASSIOU
I’m a strength and hybrid coach who helps ordinary people achieve extraordinary change. I focus on making training enjoyable while showing clients they can do far more than they ever imagined.
ordinary people are capable of extraordinary things with the right support
I’m a strength and hybrid coach with a Bachelor of Health Sciences, majoring in Exercise Science and Nutrition. Across my own journey, from placing 2nd at Powerlifting Nationals with a 762.5kg total to completing both a marathon and a 70.3 Half Ironman. I’ve learned that ordinary people are capable of extraordinary things with the right support. My coaching style is built on making training enjoyable, realistic, and something that fits into real life, not the “all or nothing” mindset we’re constantly pushed toward. I genuinely believe that doing a little, consistently, for a long time leads to incredible results, and my mission is to help people realise they’re far more capable than they think. Above all, I want training to become an outlet people look forward to a space to grow, feel good, and surprise themselves.
WHO DO you love working with?
I love working with everyday people who want to feel stronger, more capable, and more confident in themselves. Whether someone is brand new to training or looking to take things to the next level, I enjoy supporting people who are willing to show up and give their best. My favourite clients are those who want training to enhance their life, not take it over.
WHAT MAKES your coaching different?
My coaching is built on making training enjoyable, realistic, and sustainable rather than overwhelming or “all or nothing.” I focus on helping people realise they’re capable of more than they think, while also creating programs that genuinely fit their lifestyle. I blend strength, conditioning, and mindset work so clients build confidence, consistency, and long-term progress they’re proud of.
WHAT DO YOU love OUTSIDE OF WORK?
Outside of coaching, I’m a massive fantasy fiction reader and love getting stuck into a good series. I’m also a die-hard St Kilda and Liverpool supporter, and you’ll often find me watching games or going to live sporting events. Most of all, I love spending time with my wife and our dog, listening to music, and enjoying a slower pace outside the gym.

MICHAEL
I’ve worked with Charlie for five years now, since I first stepped into the world of powerlifting. Before that, I was self-coaching for a couple of years, but I knew I needed guidance to take my training to the next level. I also recognised that my biggest limiting factor would be either getting bored with my own programming or giving myself excuses not to push as hard as I should. Having Charlie as a coach eliminated both of those issues.
Since working with Charlie, everything has improved from my lifting technique and confidence in the gym to my overall mindset. I’ve developed a much more stoic and rational approach to training; I understand that bad days happen, but the good always outweighs the bad.
What I’ve enjoyed most about working with Charlie is his flexibility and depth of knowledge. Over the years, we’ve trained for a variety of goals from local and national powerlifting competitions to half marathons, and even a full marathon. Charlie has the skillset to guide anyone toward their goals, no matter how varied they might be.
If anyone is on the fence about joining, I’d say just dive in. There’s absolutely no downside to starting something new there are lessons to be learned along the way, and no matter the path you take, it will move you closer to your goals.

I have been working for Charlie for close to 7 years and its been an awesome time of continuing to get stronger whilst also getting some awesome cardiovascular fitness in and just enjoying the process of powerlifting whilst having a big red hot crack which we adore.
Everything has been periodised and planned out to ensure that I lift some huge big dawg numbers. Before in my training before Charles I didn’t put enough respect into my training and I know I could do better. It took me a long time to learn that and seeing Charles lead the way in his lifting pushed me to what to get after training SBD but also understanding that accessories need to be respected.
My numbers in my lifts have improved dramatically whilst being coached by Charles. Going from 200kg squat to 270kg squat, 110kg bench to 150kg bench and 200kg deadlift to 255kg deadlift. This has also been completed whilst completing various side quests such as a couple of half marathons, a marathon and various lifting and running events.
Getting coached by Charlie will be the best decision you make for your training and your confidence in life.

OLIVIA
I’ve been working with Charlie for about 7/8 months, and have really enjoyed it so far. Before I joined with Charlie, I was wanting a change - I felt I’d outgrown my old gym and needed a more personalised approach to meet my goals. Since working with him I feel I’ve made really good progress towards my goals - I’ve made added a good amount to my squat, bench and deadlift and am really happy with the direction my training is going in general.
I’ve really enjoyed working with Charlie so far. He really gets what I need out of training and is flexible. He isn’t one size fits all and understands how I work. He’s super respectful and I wish I’d moved across sooner!
